Discuss industrial heat storage
Solid Iron Core Thermal Energy Storage Technology
EXECUTIVE OVERVIEW
PSI Thermal Mass is commercializing a modular, high-density Solid Iron Core Thermal Energy Storage Cell engineered to deliver continuous, high-temperature process heat, steam, and hot water (200°C + or -, thermostatically controlled output delivery) for industrial applications.
Charged directly by low-cost or intermittent renewable power (wind and solar PV) or off-peak electricity, the system stores thermal energy in a solid iron matrix at operating temperatures up to 1,000°C to directly displace continuous fossil-fuel gas or electric heating.
All thermal outputs, process steam generation, absorption chilling, atmospheric water extraction from ambient air humidity, and auxiliary air circulation operate directly driven by heat—completely without requiring external electrical power.
ENGINEERING & THERMAL SPECIFICATIONS
Storage Core: High-density solid iron thermal matrix operating at temperatures up to 1,000°C.
Energy Input: Rapid resistive/inductive charging optimized for intermittent renewable input (wind and solar PV) and off-peak grid arbitrage.
Output Delivery: Continuous high-temperature process heat, steam, and hot water ($200°C+ delivery) driven purely thermally without electrical power.
Cooling & Water Generation: Thermal integration with absorption chilling systems to provide process cooling and extract potable water from ambient atmospheric humidity—operating non-electrically via direct heat input.
Thermal Recuperation: Designed with an integrated return pathway where lower-temperature return flows (from heat exchanger exits or process lines) are fed back into the cell inlet, significantly reducing operating Delta T and optimizing overall system thermal efficiency.
Auxiliary Air Movement: Localized air circulation driven entirely by solid-state thermoelectric temperature differentials (ΔTΔT), maintaining total non-electrical system autonomy.
Material Integrity: Constructed using high-grade heat-resistant alloys engineered for high resistance to oxidation and long-term thermal creep under severe thermal cycling.
Flow & Thermal Control: Heavy industrial flow control valves, specialized insulation, and robust structural enclosure.
Note: A detailed engineering specification sheet is available upon direct request for technical evaluation.
